Most states distribute tags using a random draw, but others allow hunters to buy elk tags over the counter. Utah offers a select amount of elk tags online, as well as limited phone sales. After the Utah Division of Wildlife lists elk hunting permits online, they do not update the availability numbers to reflect the number of permits sold or still available. This permit process, along with limited availability, makes it difficult to obtain an elk tag. To see available elk hunting permits, visit the online permit sales website.

One of the advantages of booking a guided elk hunt in Utah at West Canyon Ranch is that you won’t need to worry about waiting for a tag or paying the cost for a license outright. West Canyon Ranch provides all necessary tags and a guaranteed shot opportunity as well.
